Well, a surprise Rhodey had come and gone. And while he hadn't been this Tony's Rhodey, he'd still been Rhodey. And that counted for something in his book.
But Tony had a project that he'd set to the side for the weekend that needed checking up on now. So, he'd left Steve upstairs to go do that and maybe, possibly, just a tiny bit got distracted by it and abandoned Steve for the siren song of science down here.
