Tony had mentioned attempting to cook more on their last date night, but that had ended in a kitchen fire that he just wasn't going to share with Steve. Just was going to pretend nothing happened at all in that trial run.

But a salad was hard to mess up, right? Right!

"JARVIS, let me know when Steve gets in, okay?" he asked, trying to decide what vinegar was best to use here. He might have purchased about fifteen different types from the store.

Steve was still in uniform as he stepped through the door. "Hello?"

"Captain Rogers has arrived," JARVIS chimed in, startling Tony a bit as he sliced into a tomato.

"Up here, darling!" He should have gotten the wine out, shouldn't he have.

"Are you cooking?" Steve asked, sounding delighted.

"I made a salad," Tony said proudly. It was a salad full of bread, so don't think he was being too good about things.

"Good job," Steve said, leaning in to kiss him.

"Is there bread in it?" he asked. "On purpose?"

"It's Italian," Tony assured him, humming into that kiss. "It counts as a salad. I checked."

Steve chuckled softly. "I love you."

Tony beamed at that. "I have wine in case it's bad," he promised with another quick kiss.

"I'm sure it will be delicious," Steve said. "How was your week?"

Like they hadn't been texting all week or something.

"Good!" Just ignore the scorch marks around the stove, Steve.

"Good," Steve said, kissing him one more time because Tony was there and kissable.

Tony grinned as he proudly gestured at the tomatoes he'd sliced. They were only a little smushed. "Want to open the wine?"

"Sure," Steve said, walking over to the bottle and pouring two glasses a little too full.

Look, they would need it for this salad! Also the pizza place on standby after it wasn't nearly enough food for Steve.

"Thank you, sweetheart!"

"You're very welcome," Steve said. "You made dinner! I'm happy to help."

"I can try making this a thing for the nights you get back," Tony offered.

"I would love that," Steve said earnestly.

"Should I get pearls and an apron?" he teased, posing a little bit as he took his wine glass.

Steve laughed. "Only if it makes you happy," he teased back.

"Only for special occasions," Tony replied with a wink.

"In that case," Steve said, blushing around his wine glass, "there better be stockings and heels, too."

"Very special occasions," Tony agreed with a laugh.

"Salad and wine is special enough for today," Steve said.

Tony was forced, just forced to lean over to kiss him again for that. "I'm very glad to have you home."

"I'm glad to be here," Steve said. "I feel all the muscles in my back relax when I come in."
