Steve spent the holiday with his scattered team while Tony had spent it with his own. Which was much less upsetting than it seemed like it ought to have been to take time apart after... everything.

But it could have been because they were going to meet back up.

Which was why Tony was keeping a low profile by the Portalocity section of this airport, waiting for Steve to arrive. Not being impatient about it at all. Don't be ridiculous.

"Good," Tony replied, still holding onto him. "It's what I would do."

"Of course it is," Steve said softly, staring out at the water because it was easier right now. "You have an enormous heart."

"People would disagree," Tony said, kissing his shoulder. "But I'm glad you think so."

"Those people are shortsighted and don't know you," Steve grumbled, "and I'll punch them all in the nose."

"Please don't," Tony laughed. "Really not worth your time."

"Defending my husband is always worth my time," Steve said.

"Your time is worth a lot more than dealing with jerks," Tony said, going up onto his toes to kiss him on the cheek over his shoulder.

"It's my time," Steve said with a small smile. "Maybe I'll do another PSA."

"I mean, I'd never turn down another PSA." Because he was a jerk who loved them so much.

Steve chuckled. "So--" he said in his fakest Cap voice, "--you're jumping to conclusions about perfect strangers."

Tony laughed again, moving around to kiss him properly. "That sounds like my life there."

"Don't jump to conclusions about strangers, Mr. Stark," Steve said. "It's unkind."

"Yes, sir, Captain America, sir," he teased.

"I'm glad you've learned your lesson," Steve said. "Now stay in school and don't use drugs."

"I was in school awful long, don't I get some kind of reward for that?" Tony asked, leaning in for another kiss.

Steve laughed. "What do you have in mind? I think I have stickers and voting registrations."

"We have a very big bed waiting for us," Tony said, leaning heavily into him.

Steve cheeks went pink. "We do, don't we?"

His hands slid around Tony's waist.

"Or we can watch the waves," Tony suggested softly. "Just as long as I'm with you."

Steve nudged his nose against Tony's. "I'm a big fan of the first suggestion."

"Good," Tony murmured, kissing him again.

Steve sighed softly, swaying into Tony. "Anyone ever mention what a swell kisser you are?"

"Mostly just you these days," he teased.

"I'm okay with that," Steve said, grinning. "Take me to bed."

"Yes, darling," he murmured, pressing him back toward the room.
