SHIELD Helicarrier, Thursday Evening

Tony

After none too gently depositing the new SHIELD team of criminals on the deck of the helicarrier, Tony shamelessly hacked into the surveillance systems to track down just where Norman Osborn was to demand an explanation for this straight up bullshit.

He might have left SHIELD agents fleeing the area in his wake as he found Osborn's office. Which. When the hell did he get an office here?!

"What do you think you're playing at, Osborn?"

Norman

Norman sat behind his desk, his face the picture of a calm, smug bastard. "I'm just trying to do the job you've proven completely incapable of, Stark," Norman explained. "You were supposed to bring in Captain America. Instead of managing that, you've given him time to build a team. And, if the early reports I've heard are correct, you actively fought against deputized SHIELD assets who were trying to make up for your failures."

Tony

Oh, Tony really wanted to punch the smug off him.

He retracted the helmet with a tilt of his head so he could look Osborn in the eye. "Oh, are they part of the same work release program as you?"

Norman

"My team is filled with men trying to make this country great again after Rogers has done so much damage while wearing that costume," Norman said. "And if any of them were released from prison, that's only reasonable considering the fact that they're serving their country. Or, in Sabretooth's case, lending his services to the country next door."

Tony

"Your team is full of murderers and thugs," Tony replied tightly. "If you think for even a moment than any of them measure up to Captain America, you're crazier than I thought."

Because ain't no one messin' with his clique.

"Keep out of my way or your team will get beat again. Understood?"

Norman

"What I understand is that there's a job that needs to be done. Do it, or before long you'll officially be in my way," Norman promised.

Tony

"You're the sideshow," Tony shot back. "The only reason you're here is because you managed to fool people into believing you actually care about this. Don't get comfortable."

Norman

"Keep underestimating people, Stark," Norman sneered. "Between Rogers and myself, you'll soon find that your position isn't stable. If you're lucky, he'll bring you down first. At least he might pull some punches."

Tony

"Is that a threat, Osborn?"

Norman

"Consider it a performance review," Norman said threateningly.

Tony

He did most things like that. And smugly. Probably a little crazily in there too.

"Might want to check on your 'team'. I left them in a pile on the deck for you," Tony replied, turning to leave. "Next time I'll gift wrap."

Norman

"Next time, you won't know what hit you," Norman said quietly. As Tony left, he might have been able to hear some barely stifled laughter.

Goblins were laughers.
