How Many Warehouses Are Even In Queens Honesty, Early Sunday Morning

The problem with waiting for HYDRA to make the first move was that, once they did, it was a scramble to get into action. Especially when Clint's team was occasionally a little hard to find to call for back up. Stupid magic.

Luckily for Tony, he could make sad eyes at a few people on the island to help keep him alive to stop whatever the hell the Red Skull was planning this time.

He took a quick scan of the warehouse (it was always warehouses) to see what sort of opposition they'd be running into and was a little disturbed and distrustful over how few guards they had.

"Keep your eyes open," Tony said with a sigh. "Nothing about this looks good."

Or maybe he was just antsy about being in Queens. Where was the other other Spider-based hero when you needed him?

There were only a few HYDRA foot soldiers guarding the building rather than the usual mass numbers that were usually employed. The reason why became clear once inside where it looked like they were going through a goth phase with an abundance of candles and a familiar body on... well, it certainly looked like an alter from here.

So. There was that. Oh, and of course there were a few people who might not enjoy being interrupted.

"The ritual is nearly complete," the Red Skull shouted in his usual level of drama queen. "You won't be able to stop me, Avengers!"

Aaaaand Amora was constantly surrounded by incompetent idiots. She rolled her eyes, quietly withdrawing from her position next to the Red Skull so she wouldn't need dirty her hands with such trivial matters.

Tony	It seemed the ritual that Amora put together was actually working for the Red Skull. And it was messing with the readings in the armor enough to pull Tony away from the fight. "I hate magic," he informed JARVIS as the alter and Steve started to glow a little.
Steve	Yeah, yeah. They all sort of hated magic, Tony. Join the club today. The glowing only stopped the moment there was a sudden gasping for air and Steve, the one from this world, shot up to a sitting position. "What--Tony?"
Tony	Oh. Oh shit. Tony froze up before shooting at the nearest HYDRA goons on autopilot and rushing forward to Steve's side. "Steve, are you--" Yeah, ask the guy who had just been dead if he was alright. And ignore the ongoing fight with extra-dimensional teammates too.
Steve	The air seemed to go out of Steve's lungs as soon as Tony got close to the alter. He put a hand to his chest, feeling the skin split into a y-incision over his chest and open into a hole where he'd been shot. He opened his mouth, but no sound came out and he collapsed like a puppet with it's strings cut.
Tony	Tony tried to keep him upright even as the color drained from his skin and light faded from his eyes. "No. No, no, no. JARVIS, give me life signs!" "I'm sorry, sir," JARVIS said in a more hesitant tone than he generally employed.

I guess it needed this. Because reasons.

"Nothing's really triggering my spider-sense yet," Jessica noted. "And yet I'm not encouraged by that. There has to be more to this, right?"

"It's HYDRA, there has to be." Because in no universe was this group not slippery and the absolute worst.

Steve's jawline clenched under his cowl. "There's always more to Hydra," he muttered. "Cut off one head, yada yada."

Steve rolled his eyes. "Honestly?" he called back. "I've stopped you once already."

And punched Hitler a few hundred times!

"Hopefully this will be more like a stab to the heart. Let's see what they do with that," Jessica suggested.

Wow. That was just rude. He was gloating in a villainous fashion here.

Schmidt glared at the 'Captain America' addressing him. "You can't fool me with another fake."

"Not a fake," Steve said, planting his feet and holding up his shield. "Just a different reality."

And when did that become almost normal to say?

"Crawl back to Zemo?" Tony suggested, taking a breath and nodding to himself over the readings. "Barton and his team will be running back up because someone doesn't understand voicemail. We ready to run solo?"

It was Marvel, Steve. Nothing was ever normal.

Schmidt went with the most mature response to that by shooting at him. Because that's how he rolled. "Attack them!"

You know, the few HYDRA soldiers he'd kept for this sensitive procedure of body stealing.

Steve nodded. "At least for a little bit."

Because he was all about teamwork! Most of the time!

Steve clenched his jaw and got ready to punch some soldiers really, really hard.

"Keep him distracted," Tony said, blasting at the nearest HYDRA goon blocking him from interrupting whatever weird magic shit they were doing.

Despite not having their normal numbers, there were still a decent amount of HYDRA soldiers to fire on the group.

And on top of that, there was The Red Skull wasting no time to try punching whatever impostor they'd dug up for this. At least it wasn't the Winter Soldier this time.

Yeah, that would have been...something else.

Steve got his shield up in time to block first the shots, then Red Skull's punches. "I can do this all day," he muttered.

"And I only need do this moments longer," he sneered. But that could just be his usual method of speaking. It was hard to tell because of the whole skull thing. "Soon I will possess your counterpart's body as my own!"

Steve aimed at Red Skull's lack of nose extra hard for that. "No, you won't."

He stumbled back, making an inarticulate noise of rage. "Attack him!"

Yeah, you just let your nameless minions attack Captain America because he gave you a boo-boo, Schmidt.

Steve didn't roll his eyes at that, but it was a near thing. He let his shield fly, knocking over a few nameless minions like bowling pins before it ricocheted back into his hand.

"Useless!" Red Skull shouted in the most hurtful fashion possible. Those minions tried really hard, okay? And he just didn't appreciate them like they deserved.

You know. Ignoring how they worked for Nazis and all.

"Enchantress--" He turned to find she was nowhere to be found. Because supervillain team ups worked that way. "Fine. I will do this myself."
