The weekend had been one of the super fun kind that this island was so fond of throwing at people. And Steve had left a note before disappearing on him.

Which.

You know, that would be unpacked sometime when he wasn't looking five minutes from falling apart on Tony. But it was going to be A Thing. Don't think it wouldn't be.

"I'm ordering you food," Tony said the moment they were through the door.

"You've got a soft spot for him, J," Tony muttered once Steve was gone. His response was a flood of spam email about PTSD treatments that weren't exactly a shock for anyone. "Yeah, yeah."

Steve returned--eventually--with a ridiculousl tall stack of pizzas, plates, and drinks.

"Enough for an army," he said.

"I doubled the usual order." That poor, poor pizza place.

"Do they have anything left for the kids at the dorm?" Steve asked.

"I'd hope they've learned how to keep up with demand by now," Tony replied, shifting over on the couch to give him a spot to sit.

Right next to Tony, but whatever.

Steve gave him a tiny smile--he knew what you were doing, Tony--and sat down next to him. "You're eating too, right? I know how you get when you're worried."

"I'm eating too," Tony said, rolling his eyes.

He ate a whole power bar on Saturday! That counted!

It so didn't.

"Thank you," Steve said, all honest sincerity, and handed him four slices of pizza.

You know, to get started.

Steve did his motherhenning in a food based way. Which Tony would grudgingly accept.

For now.

"If you think this'll put me in a food coma and let you escape talking, you're wrong."

"Can't talk, chewing," Steve said, shoving a half slice of pizza straight into his own mouth.

Tony was so into right now, Steve.

"You're just making me into the emotionally stable one in the relationship."

"That doesn't seem right," Steve agreed.

Tony nodded in total agreement, trying not to laugh. "Turning the world upside down, Rogers."

Steve added more food to his mouth like the class act he was. "Mffgle."

"Steve." If he choked on that food, it was his own fault.

Steve had the grace to look slightly abashed as he swallowed.

Tony sighed, rolling his eyes as he picked at the toppings on his pizza. "We don't have to talk about it if you're that insistent."

"It wasn't that bad, compared to the others," he said. "I don't have a ton of childhood baggage, really."

...ish.

"You grew up in the 30s." He was calling bullshit.

"So we were hungry," Steve said. "Everyone was. Everyone was cold, too, and sick."

Steve was from the stiff-upper lip school, obviously.

"Steve," Tony said, taking his hand. "You know I'd never judge you, right?"

"I know," Steve said. "I judge me. And so did all of the weird stuff from Ma's house as it followed me around the woods all weekend. The portrait of Jesus was especially mouthy."

"About what?" Please don't make him fight the angry Jesus painting, Steve.

Steve leaned in and kissed him before getting another slice of pizza. "Don't go and fight the imaginary portrait, sweetheart."

Tony huffed, shoving a slice into his own face. "You were a great kid. Whatever that portrait said was wrong."
