Well, they had a plan to go looking for another dog because they were definitely becoming That Couple. But also, they had the space and the inclination for it. So. Dog.

And that was the plan, but the island would clearly have other things in mind.

"We'll take my car, right?" Tony asked like it was any better for a dog than Steve's motorcycle. It was only in the vaguest sense better.

Steve nodded. "There's no space for a dog on the bike." He tilted his head at Tony. "...unless you've made Patty a sidecar."

Did Tony look shifty? Yes. Yes, he did.

"It's just in case!"

"Just in case of what?" Steve asked, looking amused.

"There's an emergency and you need to transport the dog without a car," Tony replied. "Are you surprised? Remember our lives here."

"I'm not at all surprised," Steve admitted. "But let's take the car."

"Car it is," Tony replied. "I'm driving."

God help the other drivers on the road.

"Of course you are," Steve said with a grin.

"It'll be fun," he said, grabbing his keys.

"We can't bring the entire shelter home with us," Steve said, turning to Tony...and turning into a dog.

Tony turned back to say he wasn't going to adopt all the shelter before having to look down. "...Steve?"

Steve woofed.

Tony let out a sigh. "Well. Maybe we stay home instead."

Or maybe Tony went and adopted too many dogs.

Steve whined pitifully and flopped onto the ground. He'd wanted a new friend!

"I'm sorry," Tony said, reaching down to pet him. "Maybe I'll go tomorrow and you can vet their smell?"

Oh no, he'd just be bringing dogs back.

Steve turned the big, sad eyes on him.

"I'm sorry," Tony said, kissing him on the top of his head.

Steve whined and put his paws on top of Tony's feet.

"How about we look online together?" Tony suggested.

Steve perked up.

"I'll put it on the TV for you to see," he promised.

Steve wagged his tail and then got leaped on by Patriot.
