Avengers Mansion, NYC - Tuesday Night

Tony

With Cap in the wind and a mere week's deadline to get this problem solved, Tony could safely claim this month was rapidly hitting his top ten of Worst Months Ever. He loosened his tie and slumped against the wall once he was safely inside the house.

"JARVIS, who's around?"

"On premises are Vision, Major Danvers, and Thor."

Okay, that wasn't bad. He could work with that. "What about Clint and Jan?"

"Ms. Van Dyne and Mr. Barton have not returned since their departure thirty-five hours ago."

Or not. Tony let his head thunk back against the wall and stared up at the ceiling like it would give him the answers he needed for this one. See, right about now he'd love to be able to talk about this with Steve. Which was the problem.

"Thank you, JARVIS."

Thor

For a giant Norse god who wore a lot of armor and a massive cape, Thor could be surprisingly light on his feet when it came to sneaking up on people. "You are troubled my friend."

Tony

He really was. Tony liked to think it didn't make him jump once he realized he wasn't alone in his little self pity party. "Understatement of the year, Thor buddy."

Thor

"The absence of our friends concerns me as well," Thor said, cutting to the heart of the matter. It was not the time to dance around their troubles. "Especially that of our Captain."

Tony

"I'm working on that," Tony replied, feeling the stress headache that had been brewing behind his eyes for the past hour make itself known again. "I promise."

Thor

Thor nodded, clasping Tony's shoulder to pull him away from the wall. And yes, away from his little, Midgardian self pity party. "You shall not do this alone. We are a team, are we not? Friends?"

Tony

Tony stumbled along with him because Jesus Christ, Thor sometimes forgot his own strength. "Yeah, of course," Tony said like that was never in question.

He just had things he had to do to keep them safe. Like willingly put up with Norman Osborn's face for extended periods of time.

Thor

"Then rest easy," Thor boomed. "We shall overcome these troubles as we have overcome others before."

Tony

Tony snorted, falling into step with him easily enough. "I hope so."

He really, really did. But it still felt like things were only going to get worse before they got better.
