Tony had started the day working on some coding with the television on in the background to provide a little noise. And to make it seem less weird that he was mostly just staring at a tablet and coding with his brain. But whatever.

But that somehow turned into watching the background noise. Which turned into 'I could do that' after a few episodes.

And that would be why Tony had a fine dusting of either flour or confectioner's sugar turning his hair a bit grey as he frowned down at the collection of ingredients.

"I have a masters in chemistry, this shouldn't be so difficult," he grumbled to himself.

"Welcome to science," Tony replied earnestly. "You make it science by writing down when things blow up."

Just keep that in mind when your Ultron showed up, Steve. Make sure they wrote things down.

"I knew that!" Steve said, sounding pleased.

Howard blew up a lot of things making toys for the Commandos. "How about I fight the fire and you write things down?"

"JARVIS has anti-fire systems," Tony replied with way too much cheer as the 'pie' began to smoke a little. "Never tested them before..."

"You sound too happy about that," Steve observed.

[imafuturist]

"It's science, Cap," Tony replied, watching their 'delicious' creation catch fire with a whoosh.

"It's a fire, Stark," Steve said, sounding alarmed.

"You worry too much--" Tony started to say as the integrity of the microwave's sides started to give way and the metal and plastic bulged out.

"Now, J!"

See, now he was concerned. Mostly because it was going to explode in about three, two...

Steve yanked Tony behind the safety of the shield, just in case.

It was a sort of muffled boom as the microwave and their pie died in a blaze of glory. And only then the sprinklers started.

You know, a little late. But there they were.

Tony peered over at Steve as the kitchen was drenched and just started to laugh. Because wow. Just wow.

"We are terrible cooks," Steve managed between giggles.

"We blew up the kitchen," Tony gasped between laughs, clutching onto Steve's shoulder for balance here.

Somewhere overhead, JARVIS was judging them and shutting the sprinklers off once once he deemed it safe.

"I just rolled out pie crust," Steve said, wiping tears from his eyes. "You blew up the kitchen."

"Fine, you only take 30% of the blame," Tony replied with a teasing grin. "I really hope this doesn't make my hair turn to glue."

Then he really would have to shave off the beard.

"It's not lookin' good, pal," Steve teased back. "I'm not going to touch it."

"You're a real help," Tony replied finally taking a step back to survey the damage and stop--well, it wasn't looming because he wasn't tall enough--leaning into him.

Steve missed the touch immediately but didn't mention it. "Well, I am a superhero, apparently," he said wryly.

Tony shot him an amused look, biting his lip to keep from calling him his hero again. "It's the costume that makes you super," he went with instead.

"It's a much better costume now," Steve admitted. "The first one was terrible."

"Wasn't as tight, that's for sure," Tony muttered, testing the microwave door to see if it was too hot to touch as he suspected.

Steve's hand reached out to intercept Tony's. "Without gloves?" he scolded gently.

Steve was never allowed into the lab when Tony was working with fire now.

"I've handled worse," he replied, looking more amused than annoyed than he normally might be in the situation.

"That's not a ringing endorsement, Stark," Steve said.

"I'll let it cool down before figuring out how I turned it into a bomb," Tony promised, glancing down at Steve's shirt and the fact that he totally won the impromptu wet t-shirt contest there.

Which was only a little distracting.

"Want to grab some towels?"

Steve glanced down at his undershirt and blushed. Hard. "Sure," he said, taking the shield with him. "I'll go put this down, too."

"Unless we think the microwave will seek revenge," Tony teased, running his fingers through his hair to get it out of his face now that it was wet.
