Tony had promised to go all out for Steve's birthday and goddamnit, he was doing just what he promised.

He'd probably have to get JARVIS to not spill how much it cost, though. Yeah, that was going on the list.

But it was more than worth the view, watching the sun rise with a cup of coffee while Steve finished up his usual morning marathon.

"You're perfect right where you are," Steve said.

"You just like the novelty of having to lean down to kiss me," he teased.

"Maybe a little," Steve said, sliding his finger down Tony's jawline. "Still loving the novelty of beard burn, too."

"One of these days," Tony said, tilting his head obediently to allow him all the access to keep doing that. "I'll get you to hold off on shaving to do that to me."

"You certainly liked it from that other Steve," Steve teased lightly.

"I was evil at the time!" Also yes.

"I figured that out from the cheating but not really," Steve teased, tugging at Tony's hair.

"I wouldn't--" Tony cut himself off cling to him for a moment, face tucked against Steve's shoulder to get his shit together. "I'd never cheat."

"I know," Steve said, rubbing Tony's spine soothingly. "Tony. I never worry about that."

Which made Tony relax just a little against him. Not completely, but more than he was. "Wouldn't really blame you for it."

Steve shifted them a bit so he could tilt Tony's head up to meet the full force of his extremely earnest blue eyes. "Tony. I don't worry."

They really were disgustingly earnest. "I'm just saying it makes sense," he replied, helpless in the face of that. "Logically."

Steve leaned down and kissed him. "It doesn't," he said simply. "You love me."

Tony clung to him a little, letting the kiss keep his focus off whatever ridiculous things were percolating in his brain.

And since his words had gotten them into this mess, Steve decided to keep...not talking, possibly ever...and rocked slowly up against Tony again.

Tony was a minefield of issues. Well, honestly, they both were. It was their thing.

"Sorry," Tony said, quiet and breathless. "Smack me when I get... ridiculous."

Insecure was the word he was looking for there.

"I can poke you instead?" Steve said with a little smirk.

Tony kissed him once quickly for that. "If it makes you feel better..."

"Well, the point is to make us both feel better," Steve said.

"I feel better knowing you feel better," Tony said firmly.

[heroic_jawline]

Steve kissed the top of his head. "I love you," he said quietly.

"I love you too," Tony replied, relaxing against him like they'd been before.

Steve resumed his little scalp massage. "Think I'd turn into a lobster if I napped out here?"

"You'd have a me shaped tan-line," he said dryly, eyes closed to enjoy Steve's fingers in his hair.

"And that would make you laugh for the day it lasted," Steve said with a smile.
