The Bitty Version of Stark Tower, Sunday Morning

Well, Steve invited Thor to come live with them at the tower. Well, kind of Thor? Tony hadn't really gotten the details of that whole deal, but was different enough for him to assume this was another universe version, but who was he to ever turn down a friend? Alternate universes and all be damned!

Which was why Tony managed to go snag some pastries from the shop in town to bring as a sort of welcome basket. Also because it was an incredibly awkward holiday for him and he was just going to do some stuff to avoid it.

So he put the food down in the common area kitchen of the guest suites and then frowned at the lack of coffee before getting that started. "J, make sure to double the grocery delivery, okay?"

--there was a bolt of lightning and crack of thunder inside the room, and when it cleared Donald Blake was nowhere to be found. In his place...

"Stark," Thor said.

"...well, I'm glad that didn't destroy the room," Tony said with a fond expression. Because it felt like it'd been ages since he last saw his version of Thor. "But that's more the Hulk's thing. Hi, Thor."

"It has been a long time," Thor agreed.

Since before he died and his universe's you cloned him, in fact! Man, Tony had no idea how narrowly he had escaped a hammer to the face. (Don't worry, 616 Tony still unknowingly had it on his schedule.)

Ooh, pastry.

Make sure to get it on the schedule!

"I've missed having you around," Tony replied. "Or him. It gets really confusing around here, sorry."

"Yes," Thor agreed solemnly. "I have noticed." Because after a fashion he'd been here this entire time, confusing as that might be.

"So I should order extra food then." Look, he showed friendship by buying people things. This was just a universal fact.

Thor knew and accepted this about you, Tony. "It would not be...the worst idea." He should probably add before they went any further, "What happened just now will happen any time Donald and I swap our places. It is no cause for alarm." Maybe cause for more soundproofing, though.

"I'll give Wanda a heads up?" he ventured. "JARVIS can order some electrical dampening materials for the place. I didn't think about doing it here like back in the mansion..."

"It would not be the worst idea, yes." The worst idea, for the record, would be cloning him, Tony. "I regret that my presence has come as a surprise...how is Wanda?" He had managed to gather that in his universe she had not been doing well in the time after his death, to massively understate the situation.

Somewhere, Skrull Hank was just trying to explain he didn't even pick this plan, it had already existed on the books.

"She's... been dealing with some things. But she's much better. I think living with people has helped."

You can't use 'I was a Skrull' as an excuse for everything, Hank.

"She should be informed of my presence, and Blake's," Thor said. "I would not like to surprise her." Bad things happened when you did that.

No, Skrull only!

"I'll give her a heads up," Tony promised. "She had Thor come visit before. So did Steve. Mine is back in Asgard last I heard."

Thor made a thoughtful sound. "And Jane Foster wields the power of Thor." You wouldn't happen to know what was up with that, would you, Tony? Or what the fuck she had done to his poor hammer?

"Holy shit," Steve said, choking on his bear claw on the other side of the room.

"Steve!" Thor exclaimed, substantially more warmly than he had greeted his husband. "Though you are not the man I know, it is good to see your face, my friend."

"And yours," Steve said, just as warmly, making his way over to give Thor a hug. "I've missed you!"

"And I you," Thor assured him, returning the embrace warmly ~~not like that, you pervs~~. "It has been too long."

It probably would not take much effort for Steve to work out that he was super dead where Thor came from.

"How long has it been for you?" Steve asked. "You went to space after we defeated Ultron and haven't been in contact since."

"Years," Thor said, and, "I was dead."

So there was that.

Steve blinked. "But now you're...better?"

Can you get better after being dead?

The corner of Thor's mouth turned up as he said, "I was told that I am still needed in this world."

"We must really be cocking things up in your world if you had to come back from the dead to fix it," Steve said. "I'd think you deserve the rest."

You would think so, but they were really cocking things up in his world, Steve. Like you would not believe. But since he didn't want to talk about all of that hot mess, he said only, "I am the only one who can restore Asgard. As it should be."

"Someone wrecked Asgard?" Steve said, eyes wide. "...was it Loki?"

Look. Steve wasn't a huge fan.

"No," Thor said, solemn. That was right: for once it had not been Loki.* "It was Ragnarok. It was inevitable. But that cycle has been broken, and will not come again."

*Next time would be Loki.
