Well, the good thing about being able to technopathically feel your psychotic, monster counterpart was knowing where they were in relation to you. Also when they suddenly stopped existing.

Tony sighed after the buzz in the back of his head had disappeared, hunkering down to find what else he could in case this... whatever it was... didn't go away just yet. He wasn't brooding over anything. No, of course not.

That would be silly.

"You did what was necessary," Tony agreed, pulling his hand away. "When this is over... I'm giving you an override code for the armor. Okay?"

Steve missed Tony's hand almost immediately, and shifted a little bit closer. For...reasons. "You don't have to do that, Tony."

Steve, you made knowing boundaries difficult here.

"Yes, I do. I trust you to make the right call with it," Tony replied, quiet and firm as he mirrored Steve, leaning against him unconsciously.

Steve sighed tiredly and closed his eyes again. "As long as your sure. Wouldn't the first thing you'd do be to lock me out of it, though? If we got in a real fight."

"I didn't with my Steve," he admitted, pressing against Steve's shoulder with his own more firmly. "Dumb, right? I just... even when we were on opposing sides, never saw him as my enemy."

Steve slumped a little more heavily into Tony, grateful for the physical reassurance that at least one Tony was still breathing. "No, I get that," Steve said softly. "You guys had a connection."

"Yeah," Tony agreed, trying not to notice how soft and painfully young Steve looked. "You gotten any rest since this thing started?

"Not really, but neither have you," Steve said, jaw clenching stubbornly.

"Maybe I found a canister of coffee somewhere," Tony replied. He had not, but sleep deprivation wasn't new to him.

"And you didn't share?" Steve grumbled. "That's rude and unfair."

Tony grinned at that, not quite able to keep from laughing as he relaxed a little. He ruffled the hair on the back of Steve's neck without thinking too much about it. "No, but I did manage to find a candy bar if you wanted to split it."

He'd end up giving most of it to Steve, let's be honest here.

Steve's stomach let out an embarrassing gurgle. "I could eat," he admitted.

He kind of didn't want to move his head from where it was, though. Tony was surprisingly comfortable.

"When this is over, we are ordering all the food and I'm filming you eat enough to set a new world record," Tony informed him, digging the bar out from his pocket. He was... maybe a little loathe to move away too. Because Steve clearly needed the comfort. Yeah.

"JARVIS can never sigh at my forgetting I have food in my lab ever again."

"I hear they have food eating contests now," Steve said, still keeping his eyes closed. He wondered if he could eat the candy bar while napping. That'd be handy.

"Your hording tendencies have definitely come in handy," Steve said.

"Hoarding implies a psychological defect," Tony replied, trying not to sound amused. It took a little effort to open with one hand, but he got there. "I'm drawing the line at hand feeding you, Rogers."

Steve laughed, blushing hard. "I'm not that worn out, Stark."

"Good, I'm an awful nurse maid," Tony said incorrectly. "Eat. You can nap after. I'll keep a watch out."

"You definitely don't have the legs for the uniform," Steve teased, pushing up off of Tony to reach for the candy.

"We can't all be leggy blondes," Tony replied dryly.

Steve laughed. "Sometimes it's still tough to remember that I'm leggy now."

Tony took a little bite of the bar before giving it over. There. They shared.

"One day you're going to look in the mirror and recognize yourself," he said, yawning and stretching his arms up over his head.

"Not this week. This week I'm tired enough to forget to duck under stuff," Steve admitted, taking a bite and trying to hand it back to Tony.

Tony snorted, shaking his head as he took another bite before offering it back. "I'm going to hack your SHIELD file and put that tidbit in there once we get back."

Because they'd get back. It was just that simple.

"Natasha would never let me live it down," Steve said ruefully, taking a smaller bite of the candy so there was still some left for Tony.

Which Tony ignored like he didn't even see it. Take the calories, Rogers!

"'Sings in the shower. Badly,'" Tony added, leaning back against the couch with care. The poor thing didn't have much longer.
