Tony had started the day working on some coding with the television on in the background to provide a little noise. And to make it seem less weird that he was mostly just staring at a tablet and coding with his brain. But whatever.

But that somehow turned into watching the background noise. Which turned into 'I could do that' after a few episodes.

And that would be why Tony had a fine dusting of either flour or confectioner's sugar turning his hair a bit grey as he frowned down at the collection of ingredients.

"I have a masters in chemistry, this shouldn't be so difficult," he grumbled to himself.

Stupid Great British Bake Off.

"It does not!" Well, it was safe to say that Tony had a healthy level of vanity still.

"You can pull off that beard thing," Steve said. "There's very little that makes you less handsome."

That's a thing friends say, right?

Tony snorted, giving his arm a little shove. "It's a goatee, you philistine."

"It's silly, is what it is," Steve replied.

"I could just shave it off if it offends you so much," Tony suggested, tilting his head back haughtily as he stepped closer, his hip resting against the counter top.

Steve burst out laughing. "Do it. I want to see what you look like without it."

"I will," Tony replied slowly. "If you grow one."

"A goatee or a full beard?" Steve asked.

[imafuturist]

"Goatee," Tony replied, eyeing him critically. "Which I'm sure you'll enjoy learning to shape."

"...it has to be shaped? It doesn't just grow?"

Steve. You watched how long Bucky took on his hair. Why are you surprised by this?

Yeah, Tony was just going to give him a look for that.

He shook his head and snorted in amusement. "Sure. Just like your hair maintains that perfect part on it's own."

"Nah, this is a wet comb and some strong language in the morning," Steve said with a grin.

"So that's what I hear in the morning," Tony replied, grinning back at him. "It makes so much sense."

"It's either that or me singing the Army Song in the shower," Steve said.

Because he was That Guy.

"I thought that was an alley cat."

Rude, Tony. So rude.

Steve had run out of apple bits to throw, so he tossed more flour. "Jerk," he said fondly.

Tony grinned, ducking a little and moving into Steve's space to give him a little push. "Put those muscles to work and roll out the dough for me."

Because he probably needed to make sure they had a pie tin.

Or a frying pan? Or a weird square Pyrex thing?

"Fine," Steve said. "But only because I'm hungry."

It just needed to fit in the microwave. And not murder them.

"You're all heart, Rogers," Tony replied. "And stomach."

...maybe not something metal, then.

"I've been told that," Steve said, grinning up at him.

It was a nice kitchen, after all. Be a shame to blow it up.

"I'm somehow not surprised by that."

Well, it's not like it would really surprise anyone.

"You calling me predictable, Stark?" Steve asked, trying to roll out the pie...stuff. Calling it dough was maybe optimistic.

The flour had sort of absorbed some of the... everything. Sort of.

"I'd never," Tony replied, finding the most pie shaped thing he could to put things in. It was a glass bowl. They were 'baking' a pie in a glass bowl now.

This should go well!

Steve patted it flat...ish...and then shoved it into the bowl in slightly lumpy pieces. Tasty!

"There," he said, looking absurdly pleased with himself.

"Apples next," Tony said, eyeing the dough like it betrayed him for not looking like on the show. "I think we add sugar to them too."

Mmmm. It'd be a sweet mess.
