Tony was somehow still cleaning up after the party, frowning at the disturbing collection of chip flavors leftover from it.

"Maybe Kitty would like them?" he muttered to himself. Pregnant women were supposed to have odd cravings, right?

"But with a goal in mind," Steve said, blue eyes staring right at Tony. "You don't do well with compliments."

"I do just fine with them," Tony replied, helpless but to kiss him again quickly.

Also, it was the sincerity that threw him off.

"You brush them off," Steve insisted with that same sincerity.

"I--I get a lot of them that don't mean anything," Tony said, keeping his focus on Steve's mouth rather than his eyes as he spoke. "So when they do, it's..."

Steve ran his thumb along Tony's cheek. "Tough to hear?"

"In a way," he replied, tilting his head into Steve's touch.

"In what way?" Steve asked softly.

Tony shrugged and kissed him again. "Not sure. It's just different hearing those things from you."

"Do you not like it?" Steve murmured, looking a little stricken.

Tony huffed, pulling him closer. "Are you kidding? I love it. More than I ought to."

Steve was happy to be held. "Why do you think you shouldn't love it, sweetheart?"

"It's... hard to explain?" Because emotional honesty.

Steve kissed him between the eyes. "Try?"

"You mean so much to me," he said. "And I don't want to disappoint you."

Steve leaned his head in and kissed him softly. "You don't disappoint me. Not ever."

"I'm trying to believe that," Tony replied, more than okay with the closeness.

Steve kissed him again. "I know you are," he whispered. "And you really are the very best thing in my life."

He did that thing where he looked like he wanted to argue that point on principle. "You're the same for me," Tony settled on instead, cupping Steve's face with his hands.

Steve's entire face lit up. "Yeah?"

"Of course you are," Tony said softly, pushing at Steve's shoulder to pin him back against the bed to cuddle the hell out of.

Steve hugged him back tightly. "Never hurts to hear."

"I'll tell you more often then," he promised, setting in against Steve's chest.

"And I will too," Steve promised, kissing Tony's hair. "You deserve to feel as loved as you are."

Tony hummed happily, lazily dragging his fingers over the smooth skin of Steve's chest. "We still have the roof to clean."

"Mmmm," Steve agreed, closing his eyes and enjoying the petting. "And a shower. But...not this second."
