Having a birthday on the 4th of July when you were also Captain America was A Thing. A hilarious, terrible thing.

But that didn't stop Tony (mostly Jan) from throwing him a birthday party with more doubles than strictly necessary. Their friend groups were weird.

The barbeque had gone one since the afternoon and now it was finally getting dark enough for the fireworks to cap off the celebration.

Tony staked out a couch for them both to enjoy the show now that it was slightly less unbearably hot. "C'mon, birthday boy."

Steve smiled as he sat down, a hot dog in each hand still. "You think we'll be able to see the fireworks from here?" he teased.

"Shush, at least we have a breeze," Tony replied, eyeing one of those hotdogs to decide if it was worth stealing.

"Get your own hot dog," Steve told him through a huge bite.

"But my kind, loving, giving boyfriend is right here with an extra one." Laying it on a little thick there, Tones.

"I thought the birthday boy wasn't supposed to give away gifts," Steve teased.

"I've been told that giving is the real gift," Tony said, pulling him into a kiss.

Their friends could deal with the PDA.

"You taste like mustard."

"That's because ketchup is for nine year olds."

Tony snorted and kissed him again for that. "Just as long as it's not a case of going to the dark side of Chicago style."

"Never," Steve vowed, kissing him back and only blushing a little.

"How was this morning?" he asked, tugging on Steve's shirt playfully as he abandoned the hotdog quest.

Steve laughed. "A lot of fun," he said. "They thought I was a paid performer."

"Please say you got pictures," Tony said, positively lighting up.

"Of course I did," Steve said, flipping through his phone and showing Tony a serii of really excited kids, women clearly pretending to think they had a shot with him, and a lot of disaffected teenagers. "Those are my favorite," Natasha said, appearing from nowhere to peer over their shoulders.

"This disaffected youth?" he teased.

"A few even told me that the real Captain America wasn't all that," Steve said, snickering.

"I,might have said that when I was a sullen, sulking teen as well," Tony admitted.

“And here I thought you'd had my poster up,” Sfeve teased.

"I was too cool for you in college," he shot back playfully.

[heroic_jawline]

"I'm not that surprised," Steve admitted. "You're still too cool for me."

"Yes, but now I don't care about being cool," Tony said with a quick kiss.

Somewhere nearby at least three of their friends groaned at how cheesy they were being.

"I heard that, Sam and Rhodey," Steve said as he pulled back.

Tony blew a kiss at Rhodey as he slipped an arm around Steve. "At least everyone is playing nice."

Other Tony was being very possessive of his Rhodey. Which wasn't fair.

It really wasn't, but at least they'd come? Steve hadn't been sure about that at all.

He was awkwardly (at least in the eyes of another him) sticking to the edges of the party like he wasn't certain of being welcome but sure as hell wasn't gonna show it.

Tony kissed him on the cheek. "Mostly. I think your Thor brought mead. And that'll end badly."

"I think our definition of badly is different," Steve said, grinning.
