Having a birthday on the 4th of July when you were also Captain America was A Thing. A hilarious, terrible thing.

But that didn't stop Tony (mostly Jan) from throwing him a birthday party with more doubles than strictly necessary. Their friend groups were weird.

The barbeque had gone one since the afternoon and now it was finally getting dark enough for the fireworks to cap off the celebration.

Tony staked out a couch for them both to enjoy the show now that it was slightly less unbearably hot. "C'mon, birthday boy."

"I was too cool for you in college," he shot back playfully.

"I'm not that surprised," Steve admitted. "You're still too cool for me."

"Yes, but now I don't care about being cool," Tony said with a quick kiss.

Somewhere nearby at least three of their friends groaned at how cheesy they were being.

"I heard that, Sam and Rhodey," Steve said as he pulled back.

Tony blew a kiss at Rhodey as he slipped an arm around Steve. "At least everyone is playing nice."

Other Tony was being very possessive of his Rhodey. Which wasn't fair.

It really wasn't, but at least they'd come? Steve hadn't been sure about that at all.

He was awkwardly (at least in the eyes of another him) sticking to the edges of the party like he wasn't certain of being welcome but sure as hell wasn't gonna show it.

Tony kissed him on the cheek. "Mostly. I think your Thor brought mead. And that'll end badly."

"I think our definition of badly is different," Steve said, grinning.

"Anything that involves karaoke is bad." Because Tony would sing.

"Thor loves to sing Tubthumping," Steve said, nodding.

"If you love me, you'll save me from that." Seriously, Steve.

"He gets knocked down, but verily, he recovers," Steve told him.

Tony elbowed him in the ribs, trying to smother laughter. "My Thor prefers Abba."

Steve chuckled. "That would be a swell duet."

"Don't you even encourage it."

[heroic_jawline]

"But it's my birthday," Steve said. "Wouldn't it be a nice gift?"

It would not.

"I will go home to Patriot." He would not.

[heroic_jawline]

"I bet I could duet with Patriot next year, " Steve teased, "but we'd have to practice a lot."

"A whole lot of howling," he teased right on back.

"How do you think the Commandos got their name?" Steve asked, laughing.

[imafuturist]

"By singing with dogs?" Tony asked, laughing.

[heroic_jawline]

"By singing in general," Steve said. "We were so very loud in bars."

"Oh, I need to hear about this."

"Not much to it," Steve said with a little smile. "Dugan would start with old Irish drinking songs mostly to make Monty look like he'd bitten a lemon. Naturally Buck and I knew 'em, Frenchy loved to tick of Monty and Morita wasn't going to miss out on any sort of ridiculousness. Danny Boy sung at the top of your lungs isn't a pretty song."
