Tony had mentioned attempting to cook more on their last date night, but that had ended in a kitchen fire that he just wasn't going to share with Steve. Just was going to pretend nothing happened at all in that trial run.

But a salad was hard to mess up, right? Right!

"JARVIS, let me know when Steve gets in, okay?" he asked, trying to decide what vinegar was best to use here. He might have purchased about fifteen different types from the store.

Because reasons.

Steve laughed. "I can take notes, though. Which vinegar are you picking?"

"Which do you think we should try?" SO. SO. MANY.

"The first one you touch," Steve said.

Ooh. Scientific.

"Living on the edge, I see," Tony replied closing his eyes to pick one at random. "Huh. Did you know they made vinegar out of champagne?"

"I didn't," Steve said, "though it explains the taste of some of the stuff Frenchie had us drinking back in the war."

"Did he have a different bottle for himself?" Because that would be Tony's guess, really.

"He did," Steve said. "Something about not punishing us with the truly terrible wine."

Tony grinned at him before nodding like he understood. "Well, this is just for salads, not for drinking."

"I am not going to drink our vinegar collection," Steve said dryly.

"I'm not judging you," he promised, offering Steve a chunk of bread as he grabbed a whisk.

Steve laughed. "Maybe before you'd taught me about wine," he teased.

"Well, now you can dazzle anyone with your knowledge of wine," Tony replied as he worked. "Of course, I don't know if it'll work on most of your team..."

"The other Tony will be wowed," Steve said. "Everyone else likes beer."

[imafuturist]

"We can buy some fancy beer," Tony promised. "That they'll drink like it's the cheap stuff if Rhodey is anything to go by."

He said it with absolute love!

"Or we can buy cheap beer and they can drink it like it's cheap beer and we save money?" Steve said.

"Also a smart plan," Tony agreed, tossing the dressing over the vegetables and bread to mix together. "And we can put that into fancy wine."

"We can share it with the other Tony," Steve said. "He could probably use it."

[imafuturist]

"I'll suggest a scotch to bring him," he suggested. It might cheer the other him up a bit!

"He'd be surprised," Steve said. "I like surprising him."

Tony smiled and leaned over for a kiss. "Grab the plates and I'll get forks?"

"On it," Steve said, lingering in the kiss.

"Distracting me," Tony said, doing nothing to deter him beyond that. Maybe even encouraging him a bit with another kiss.

"Can't let the salad get cold," Steve said. "Oh, wait--"

"Soggy. Salads," Tony informed him, crowding Steve up against the counter top. "Get soggy."

"That sounds terrible," Steve said, pulling Tony in by his belt loops.
