Steve spent the holiday with his scattered team while Tony had spent it with his own. Which was much less upsetting than it seemed like it ought to have been to take time apart after... everything.

But it could have been because they were going to meet back up.

Which was why Tony was keeping a low profile by the Portalocity section of this airport, waiting for Steve to arrive. Not being impatient about it at all. Don't be ridiculous.

"We had cornbread, sausage, and chestnut ones," Steve said. "What did you have?"

"Jan had it catered, so it was just normal bread, I think?" They were lucky it wasn't deconstructed.

"There are apparently deeply held thoughts about stuffing and 'I don't like chestnuts' wasn't a position anyone was allowed to have."

"I can't say I've had much in the way of chestnuts outside of trips to Japan," Tony said thoughtfully as he offered Steve his glass of wine.

Steve gave him a smile in thanks as he took it. "They have chestnuts in Japan?"

"I think so? It's a pretty popular flavor for desserts there at least."

Which didn't make it seem more delicious for stuffing, did it?

"Huh," Steve said. "Maybe I'd like it better that way."

"Maybe we go for Christmas?" Exchange snow for more snow.

"That could be nice," Steve said, smiling. "Find a place with a nice fireplace?"

"And lots of grilled meat," Tony agreed, toasting him with his glass. "Maybe one of the hot springs."

"Can we eat grilled meat while sitting in a hot spring?" Steve asked.

It was the most decadent thing he could imagine.

"I'll see what we can do," Tony promised.

Steve leaned in for a kiss. "I love you."

"I love you too," Tony hummed, leaning into kiss him again.

"And not because of the vacations," Steve said quietly.

"But they help, right?" Anthony, please focus on actual emotions here.

"Not as much as you think," Steve said, kissing him again.

"I like giving you nice things," Tony replied sheepishly. "You deserve them."

"I know you do," Steve said, crowding him against the bar a bit, "but it's not why I'm here."

"I know," Tony sighed. "I know. It's... hard habit to break."

"I love you," Steve said, giving Tony the full power of his earnestness as he wrapped his arms around him, "not your money."

And he hated that that made him an outlier.

Tony hugged him back. "I love you too."

"I'll tell you as many times as you need me too," Steve said with a soft smile.

"Maybe we both have some trouble with remembering some things in this relationship," he teased with a watery voice.

"You might be right," Steve agreed. "Let's eat and then stretch in that ridiculous bed of yours before we get to the island."
