Secret AIM Facility - Long Island, NY - Saturday Morning

After the complete clusterfuck that was yesterday, Tony was going for a tried and true method of coping called 'go beat up bad guys for touching his stuff.' It was super fun.

And he did promise to let this version of Steve hit the armor for stress tests, but hitting AIM seemed like a way better plan. So, hitting AIM it was.

"If you see anyone in ridiculous yellow outfits, they're the bad guys," Tony said, looking through the list of Stark technology on the premises that was helpfully listed by JARVIS after a quick scan of the place. He was going to blow up so much stuff today.

It almost made up for the fact that he was in Long Island.

[for the captain who would be confused if Tony said 'Assemble!']

"It was before glitter was invented," Steve deadpanned.

"Before the wheel," Tony added cheerfully.

"We had to chase the dinosaurs through Brooklyn with spears we carved ourselves," Steve agreed.

"Well. Brooklyn."

"It was a vast and savage wasteland," Steve said, "and now, I hear there are hipsters."

He was talking to someone born and raised in Manhattan, so basically.

"Oh god, where did you learn about this and how did I miss it?"

"Other you introduced me to hipsters along with shawarma," Steve told him.

"But hipsters," Tony said, throwing his hands up in the air as he walked past Steve. "That's a milestone."

"I don't really get them," Steve admitted.

"How far are you on catching up with history? Because the 60's might help a little," Tony, leading them back on out so pizza could happen.

"I'm stuck in the Korean War right now," Steve said. "Catch me up?"

"You'll be getting the pop culture version," Tony warned him.

"Figured," Steve admitted with a slight smile. "I'll wikipedia the rest."

"Okay, so after the second world war people came home kind of realized that dome of them had a lot more freedom in wartime than they did in the good ol' US of A. Women who worked in the factories or military were expected to just stop and go back to that Stepford wife thing. Black soldiers... well, even the military wasn't that great for them at the time. But still a little better than home could be."

Tony had opinions. Mostly because Rhodey and Carol.

Steve nodded, having butted headfirst into all manner of stupidity due to Peggy, Morita and Jones on the Howling Commandos. "So, protests?" he guessed. "Unions? Riots?"

"All of the above," Tony said cheerfully. "Between that and the generation born after the war ended, you got a group who want to change things. Civil rights , women's liberation, freedom of expression... hippies. Howard hated them for all the protests outside Stark plants."

And Tony thought it was amazing now.

"What were they protesting Howard for? Peggy would kick him with her pointy heels if he wasn't fair to--" Steve stopped talking and remembered who he was talking about. "Harassment lawsuits?" he guessed.

That earned him an amused little side eye. "Up until four years ago, Stark Industries was best known as a weapons manufacturer."

"From what I've seen, there've been plenty of people to shoot at," Steve commented.

Tony's smile at that was a little brittle. "There always is. But after Korea came Vietnam and a generation of kids who wanted to know why they were being drafted to die in a country most of them had never heard of."

"Guess 'because it's the right thing to do' was wearing a little thin?" Steve guessed.

"I'll let you decide on right or wrong for yourself in the wars from Vietnam on," Tony replied, perking back up quickly. "Gets a little hazy sometimes."

"Looking forward to it," Steve said dryly, reaching up to swipe his bangs into some semblance of order. "So. Pizza?"

"Leave 'em. People will think it's a trend," Tony said, leading the way on out of the building.

"Looking unkempt is a trend?" asked the man in a sweater, tight blue pants and red leather boots, making a face.
