Tony had started the day working on some coding with the television on in the background to provide a little noise. And to make it seem less weird that he was mostly just staring at a tablet and coding with his brain. But whatever.

But that somehow turned into watching the background noise. Which turned into 'I could do that' after a few episodes.

And that would be why Tony had a fine dusting of either flour or confectioner's sugar turning his hair a bit grey as he frowned down at the collection of ingredients.

"I have a masters in chemistry, this shouldn't be so difficult," he grumbled to himself.

Steve snorted. "Oh, just me, huh?" he replied, tossing another core.

Witness another reason why Sarah Rogers didn't let Steve and Bucky in the kitchen unsupervised.

Steve was a terrible influence! Tony would never... be allowed in the kitchen growing up, so it was a moot point.

Tony turned a little so it was just his side to Steve. You know. To present a smaller target area. "Just you," Tony agreed, making it rain with those apple peels.

Bet you feel bad for helping now, Steve.

He'd feel bad when they were cleaning the kitchen later!

And possibly when he tried the pie.

"You are such a...brat," Steve laughed, looking for something else to throw. Flour? Handful of flour was good.

If the pie didn't attempt to murder them first.

"Oooo, strong words from Mr. Rogers," Tony replied with a grin. It was a ghostly grin solely due to the flour he was now covered in.

Spooooky.

He was just forced to retaliate with a handful of the apple peels to rub into Steve's hair.

"Ack!" Steve yelped as one got down the back of his horrible plaid monstrosity of a shirt.

At least it wasn't a smedium?

"I'm sorry, are you alright?" Tony asked with faux concern.

It wasn't, but the white sleeveless undershirt underneath definitely was...and now you're getting to see it, Tony, as Steve pulled off the plaid thing.

"I'll live," he said dryly.

Tony's eyebrows shot up a little at that, but he politely refrained from the comment on the tip of his tongue.

Instead he shook out his hair to get some of the flour off. "Making me look old here," he grumbled, looking up at grey tinge that remained.

"Part of my evil plot," Steve said, smiling. "It suits you."

"It does not!" Well, it was safe to say that Tony had a healthy level of vanity still.

"You can pull off that beard thing," Steve said. "There's very little that makes you less handsome."

That's a thing friends say, right?

Tony snorted, giving his arm a little shove. "It's a goatee, you philistine."

"It's silly, is what it is," Steve replied.

"I could just shave it off if it offends you so much," Tony suggested, tilting his head back haughtily as he stepped closer, his hip resting against the counter top.

Steve burst out laughing. "Do it. I want to see what you look like without it."

"I will," Tony replied slowly. "If you grow one."

"A goatee or a full beard?" Steve asked.

"Goatee," Tony replied, eyeing him critically. "Which I'm sure you'll enjoy learning to shape."

"...it has to be shaped? It doesn't just grow?"

Steve. You watched how long Bucky took on his hair. Why are you surprised by this?

Yeah, Tony was just going to give him a look for that.

He shook his head and snorted in amusement. "Sure. Just like your hair maintains that perfect part on it's own."

"Nah, this is a wet comb and some strong language in the morning," Steve said with a grin.

"So that's what I hear in the morning," Tony replied, grinning back at him. "It makes so much sense."

"It's either that or me singing the Army Song in the shower," Steve said.

Because he was That Guy.

"I thought that was an alley cat."

Steve had run out of apple bits to throw, so he tossed more flour. "Jerk," he said fondly.
