Tony had started the day working on some coding with the television on in the background to provide a little noise. And to make it seem less weird that he was mostly just staring at a tablet and coding with his brain. But whatever.

But that somehow turned into watching the background noise. Which turned into 'I could do that' after a few episodes.

And that would be why Tony had a fine dusting of either flour or confectioner's sugar turning his hair a bit grey as he frowned down at the collection of ingredients.

"I have a masters in chemistry, this shouldn't be so difficult," he grumbled to himself.

"Thanks, Ma," Steve replied.

Tony tossed a tiny screw at his head without looking up from his project. It would probably end up in the pie.

"Better catch up, Rogers."

Mmm, screw pie.

"Oh, it's gonna be like that?"

"Like what?" Tony asked innocently. As he twisted some copper wiring to bypass something. Oh god, the power source. What was he doing to the power source?

"Smack talking like it matters," Steve said, finishing peeling the apple in his hand in one long strip.

"I don't need to smack talk," Tony replied, side-eyeing the apple peel. Show off. "Smack talk is for people who know they're going to lose."

"That's why I'm calling what you're doing smack talk," Steve said, grinning at him.

[imafuturist]

"No, that sounds like smack talk," Tony shot back, leaning back to give the poor, poor microwave a critical eye.

As long as it didn't give him a critical eye back...

Steve stuck his tongue out at him because he was mature that way.

Not this time. It helped that he wasn't Hank Pym here.

"I think this'll do," Tony replied, tweaking one last thing and winking at him. Because sure. That was a thing people did.

Steve blushed as he finished his final apple. "What's it going to do now?" he asked.

"Should cook the pie in a fraction of the time." Or cause the apocalypse.

Possibly both?

"Good," Steve said, giving the apples a look. "They're getting kinda brown looking."

"They're supposed to get cinnamon and sugar on them anyway."

Which made them brownish too.

"Crust! Shit," he muttered, going to get it out of the fridge.

Language, Tony. Language.

"Language," Steve said without thinking.

Which caused Tony to pause a little at the fridge and give him an incredibly amused look. "Should I say 'sugar' instead?"

"Maybe," Steve muttered, turning red. He had not meant for that to come out of his mouth.

And it was a blush that Tony could draw attention to without making things weird!

"I have heard you swear, Cap," Tony said, placing the unholy abomination of 'dough' on the table to be rolled out. "On several occasions."

Possibly "rolled".

"Yeah, yeah, laugh it up," Steve mumbled.

It would end up in a pie tin at the very least. Somehow.

"I would never laugh at you," Tony replied with fake hurt, hand to his chest like it physically pained him to even think of such a thing. "My friend. My good friend who would never use foul language."

Steve chucked an apple core at him.

At that Tony did laugh, ducking a little in a way that didn't really get him out of the way of the core. "Well, darn it, Steve! Look at the mess you're making!"

Which was punctuated with a quick handful of apple peel being tossed back,

Steve snorted. "Oh, just me, huh?" he replied, tossing another core.

Witness another reason why Sarah Rogers didn't let Steve and Bucky in the kitchen unsupervised.

Steve was a terrible influence! Tony would never... be allowed in the kitchen growing up, so it was a moot point.

Carry on.

Tony turned a little so it was just his side to Steve. You know. To present a smaller target area. "Just you," Tony agreed, making it rain with those apple peels.

Bet you feel bad for helping now, Steve.

He'd feel bad when they were cleaning the kitchen later!

And possibly when he tried the pie.

"You are such a...brat," Steve laughed, looking for something else to throw. Flour? Handful of flour was good.
