After taking their class here for a museum trip, it was only reasonable to give Steve that date he wanted. Also, it wasn't Olive Garden. A place that made Tony shudder involuntarily.

That whole mention could be blamed on that last bit of weirdness.

"I've heard good things about this place," Tony said, hurrying along the street to the resturant in question.

"That sounds really swell," Steve murmured. "Thank you."

Tony smiled and reached over to put his hand on Steve's for that. Because sometimes it was just nice to have a moment there.

Steve slid his fingers through Tony's and squeezed. "Love you."

"Love you too," Tony said with a smile. He only pulled away as food was being brought out to the plate for them.

"This doesn't look like vegetables," Steve said, pointing to the fois gras and smiling.

"Well, I thought we could try it since we're here and all..."

Also, they could splurge and then crave all the salads after the trip was over.

"I don't think I've had more than one kind of fois gras...ever," Steve said.

"Well, now you'll have the experience."

Even if pate was a little, well, cat food-adjacent to Tony.

"Hopefully I'll enjoy it," Steve said with a smile.

"If not... well, there's always more bottles of prosecco," Tony said, lifting his glass in a toast. "It's actually from this region, you know."

But weirdly it didn't make people act like pretentious assholes like champagne did.

Steve smiled. "I'll never say no to prosecco."

"Well then, cheers," Tony said, lifting his glass. "Or cin cin."

"Sláinte," Steve replied, clinking it against Tony's.

"Feeling very Italian yet?" Tony asked, spreading some of the pate onto a piece of bread. "It's not exactly New York's version of Italian."

"It's definitely not what I'm used to," Steve admitted. "It's delicious."

Well, the pate was kind of weird but Steve was never going to complain about food.

Great Depression baby that he was.

"No checkered table clothes," Tony added.

"Or drippy candles," Steve agreed, smiling.

"Oh, but do we think there's a mob connection here?" The real test.

Steve glanced around, appraising. "Probably not," he decided.

"Probably," Tony agreed with a laugh. "But the chance is never zero."

"Well, they make really good fried vegetables, regardless of legality," Steve said.

"And subs," Tony added with a wistful sigh. "Best sub I ever had came from a place I'm certain was a front."

Steve laughed. "There was a place with the best meatballs and the shadiest reputation back in the old neighborhood."

"That's just how it goes!" You know. In New York. New Jersey. Chicago. Probably Vegas.

Steve nodded, grining. "Maybe just in New York."

He caught sight of their waiter struggling under the weight of a giant seafood tower. "Is that heading our way?"
