Secret AIM Facility - Long Island, NY - Saturday Morning

After the complete clusterfuck that was yesterday, Tony was going for a tried and true method of coping called 'go beat up bad guys for touching his stuff.' It was super fun.

And he did promise to let this version of Steve hit the armor for stress tests, but hitting AIM seemed like a way better plan. So, hitting AIM it was.

"If you see anyone in ridiculous yellow outfits, they're the bad guys," Tony said, looking through the list of Stark technology on the premises that was helpfully listed by JARVIS after a quick scan of the place. He was going to blow up so much stuff today.

It almost made up for the fact that he was in Long Island.

Steve nodded. "Yeah. I told them to send me the bill, though, so we'll see if that happens."

"And give up spying on you?" Tony asked, starting the fun process of removing the suit.

You know, the board totally had it right that Iron Man was a drain on funds when he has multiple locations for this.

Steve face clenched up. "Yeah, there's that. It's why I said yes to coming to the island--it lets me pretend my life's my own for a minute."

"SHIELD doesn't own you," Tony replied, stretching out his arm and making a mental note about adjustments for this armor. "If they say otherwise, I have a highly overpaid legal team I'd like them to meet."

"Need any help with that?" Steve offered, waving his hand at the armor. "I've never really seen it come off, other than when Hulk assisted, and that probably wasn't how it was supposed to be done."

Tony made such a wounded face at the Hulk removing his armor. His poor, poor armor.

"Mostly comes off on its own, but I haven't gotten it fitted perfectly yet. Like wearing bad shoes." He tapped on the chset plate as it shifted and clicked to come off. "Help catch this do I don't crack the roof?"

Well, he'd probably built another five sets by now? Not that Steve knew about Tony's terrible sleep habits.

Steve braced himself and reached out for the chest plate. "That'd be awkward," he agreed.

Compulsive building was a Tony thing. Though MCU Tony kinda jumped the gun if you asked this one...

Tony let out a relieved sigh once the armor came free. "God, I hope this doesn't mean I've put on weight."

"I go running every morning at five if you have," Steve said. Helpfully.

I don't believe five in the morning is real." Other than a time work through on an all-nighter.

He stepped forward, out of the bottom half of the armor to be cold and unhappy in his undersuit. "C'mon, I have clothing inside."

"Oh, it's real," Steve assured him. "It's beautiful, crisp--a day no one has messed up yet."

Steve Rogers: unapologetic morning person.

"And good. The long underwear of the future isn't a great look for you."

Ugh, he was such a Disney Princess.

"Rich, spangles. Real rich."

Steve's cheeks went pink. "Well, it's not proper restaurant attire, that's all."

Tony mouthed 'proper restaurant attire' before laughing.

"Wait until you see people in the summer, Steve. Just wait," he said, leading the way down into a building that looked similar enough to his lab on the island. Only this one had people other than Tony working in it. Which meant there was the occasional gawker at the CEO walking by with Captain America.

Steve did his USO smile and wave thing to the gawkers as he followed along. "This looks familiar," he commented.

"I like to be able to show up at any of my facilities to work." It was good PR and he liked familiar things. "Way more interesting than my office," he added, opening a door with a scan of his hand.

Which was generally boring and full of paperwork to sign. But it remained fancy despite not being the main office.

"Definitely more gizmos to poke at," Steve agreed.

Steve, don't poke at the gizmos.

"Gizmos that will hopefully change the world," he said with a wry little smile as he marched on into the unused office of his.

At least if he poked, they had a slightly smaller chance of exploding now that they didn't design weapons. Things might still explode, though. Fair warning.

Steve followed along, pausing along the way to look more closely at whatever shiny thing caught his eye.

The 21st Century was still pretty new.

"Try not to blow anything up while I change," Tony said before ducking into a side room.

He was mostly teasing. Mostly.

"I'll do my best," Steve said a little dryly. "They all seem to run on some kind of electricity."

He thought he was funny, okay?

He certainly did.

"Did you expect steam powered?"

"Maybe," Steve said, dialing his Aw Shucks up to twelve.

He made his own fun.

When Tony reappeared in a far too expensive suit for pizza, his hair was either artfully messy or genuinely mess from changing. It was an honest toss up.

He tossed an MIT sweater at Steve. "I'm not buying it, Pollyanna."

"I'm going to kill the shoulders of this," Steve warned.

Which still made a small part of him confused. He'd swum in Bucky's hand-me-downs.
