Apartment Above Stark Industries, Sunday Afternoon

Tony had started the day working on some coding with the television on in the background to provide a little noise. And to make it seem less weird that he was mostly just staring at a tablet and coding with his brain. But whatever.

But that somehow turned into watching the background noise. Which turned into 'I could do that' after a few episodes.

And that would be why Tony had a fine dusting of either flour or confectioner's sugar turning his hair a bit grey as he frowned down at the collection of ingredients.

"I have a masters in chemistry, this shouldn't be so difficult," he grumbled to himself.

Stupid Great British Bake Off.

Steve blushed. "Well, that's because you're reckless sometimes?"

"Very keen on traditions," Tony said, turning to get himself coffee so Steve wouldn't see his expression of 'oh god why do I use words?'

Steve laughed. "I'll remember that."

"Something to drink?" Yes, you change that subject, Tony.

[heroic_jawline]

"Sure, I'll have some coffee," Steve said, smiling. "Thanks, Tony."

Steve was soooo oblivious.

Look, it was the only thing keeping things normal: Steve's level of obliviousness. Oh, and Tony's basic level of self loathing.

Adorable.

"Does the caffeine even work on you?" he asked, pouring Steve a cup as well.

"Not really," Steve said, "but you make much better coffee than the Commandos."

"I'll take that compliment," Tony decided, placing the cup next to the small pile of apples that were undoubtedly going to turn brown before they could get them into a pie.

No one told them about lemon juice, huh.

"Don't steal the apples," Steve said. "Bucky used to be a terrible apple thief."

Thank god for that. Because then the obvious fix to having none in the apartment would be vinegar, right?

"Your apples are safe from me," Tony replied with mock sincerity. "Scouts honor."

Oh, that would have been a disaster.

"Good," Steve said, grinning. "Because this is hard work."

Not really, no.

"Slaving away to get pie," Tony replied, nodding along like he could believe it.

[heroic_jawline]

"Better than slaving away to get gluey potatoes," Steve replied. "Or powdered eggs, which were the worst."

"I'll take your word on it," Tony promised. "I've had MREs before. I assume they're on par with powdered eggs and gluey potatoes."

"Oh, MREs are so much better," Steve said.

Just...think about that for a minute, Tony. Ew.

Tony stared at him for that.

"I am so sorry for your tastebuds."

It's possibly why he was actually looking forward to this disaster of a pie.

"Well, it was the 1940s."

Steve. Steve.

"Do you need a hug?" Tony asked, lips curling up into a hint of a smile. "For your suffering."

Steve burst out laughing. "Yes, it was terrible. Everything was boiled."

"And now we have new ways to cook," Tony replied, leaning a little forward like he was sharing a secret. "Here in the future."

A beat.

"Or, in our case, food delivery services."

"Oooh, could we microwave the pie?"

Steve. Steve, no.

[imafuturist]

Ton your tilted his head at the microwave, swiping an apple shamelessly. "I'd have to make a few adjustments..."

Radioactive Pie-rat was going to happen now.

And there was no one to blame but themselves...

"It'll be faster than waiting for the pie to bake," Steve said.

It was like a pastry Ultron. Seriously, Steve. You enabled this to happen.

Tony nodded, abandoning the apple to get a screwdriver from the utensil drawer. Because of course he kept tools there.

"I can manage that."

Natasha had probably stowed weapons under all of their cabinets, anyway.

"Can you finish it before I get through all of these apples, though?" Steve asked.
