Tony had started the day working on some coding with the television on in the background to provide a little noise. And to make it seem less weird that he was mostly just staring at a tablet and coding with his brain. But whatever.

But that somehow turned into watching the background noise. Which turned into 'I could do that' after a few episodes.

And that would be why Tony had a fine dusting of either flour or confectioner's sugar turning his hair a bit grey as he frowned down at the collection of ingredients.

"I have a masters in chemistry, this shouldn't be so difficult," he grumbled to himself.

Stupid Great British Bake Off.

"I'll get JARVIS to research," he promised. "But I'm pretty sure we have ice cream for the pie."

Unless someone ate it all. Which was a possibility.

The other possibility was the ice cream becoming Pie-rat's evil sidekick.

Steve looked slightly guilty. "The vanilla one?"

That he'd finished?

"I want to feel surprised, but I've lived with enough enhanced people."

A beat.

"And Barton."

"He's always struck me as a big ice cream-napper," Steve agreed with a nod. "I can duck out to the store while the pie is cooking."

Awww, he was so optimistic there would be pie.

It was adorable!

"Well, I can't serve Captain America apple pie without vanilla ice cream, can I?" Tony teased.

"It's probably illegal," Steve said, grinning. He began peeling apples.

Which left Tony to find more butter. And maybe this time not completely mess it up.

He was still going to mess it up.

It was a sort of companionable silence that left him smiling slightly as he watched Steve work. Shut up, that was normal multi-tasking to do that.

Steve ducked his head, ears going red at the tips. "How many apples do you want? Ten?"

That's...a lot of apple, Steve.

"Ten sounds right," Tony decided, glancing back down.

Because this was a pie of failure. As evident from the fact that he was in no way measuring the water going into the crust.

Which would be why it was sticking to his hands but good.

"Did you mean to make glue?" Steve asked sort-of helpfully.

"The recipe said water to bring it together," Tony muttered, pulling his fingers apart and making a face. "It's... together."

"Well, well done on that, then," Steve teased.

"I'll throw this at you," Tony warned. That was assuming he could get it off his hands.

"Sure you will," Steve scoffed.

Hard to believe he got beat up a lot as a kid, huh.

It so was!

Which caused, nay, forced Tony to flick some overly soggy pie dough at Steve's head.

Steve dodged, but some ended up in his hair anyway.

Naturally he counted by tossing an apple core at Tony.

"Hey!" Tony was an innocent pawn here in Steve's stubborn nature.

Just ignore the little grin he had going on as he retaliated again to really ruin Steve's hair.

"Ack!"

It was like Steve was from a comic originally or something.

Either way, he hair was totally ruined.

"I will put apple peels in your bed," he threatened.

"Worth it," Tony replied, leaning back to admire his work. It was very Something About Mary.

Steve stuck his tongue out at him. Because he was secretly 12.

Hey, it made Tony laughed at least.

"Okay, dough is supposed to rest in the fridge. And you have more apples to peel," he said, giving Steve and his apples a critical once over as he moved to take care of his part.

"Sir yes sir," Steve said, laughing. "I'm faster with potatoes."

Tony shot him a sloppy salute, leaning back to close the refrigerator door. Because the 'dough' was resting. Hopefully the apples would at least be edible.

"You can show that off on Friday then."

TONY, DON'T ENCOURAGE IT.

Steve laughed. "It's St. Patrick's Day, isn't it?"

"Make sure to break out something green for it," Tony said with a nod.

Or, you know, just take a shower.
