Steve spent the holiday with his scattered team while Tony had spent it with his own. Which was much less upsetting than it seemed like it ought to have been to take time apart after... everything.

But it could have been because they were going to meet back up.

Which was why Tony was keeping a low profile by the Portalocity section of this airport, waiting for Steve to arrive. Not being impatient about it at all. Don't be ridiculous.

"And you stick to it very admirably," Steve said.

"I could always buy a nice blue one for you for Christmas," Tony suggested.

"I don't need a car, Tony," Steve said.

"A motorcycle?" That made it better, right?

"You don't need to buy me anything," Steve told him. Again.

"But it's Christmas!" Totally made it okay to full on Sugar Daddy.

Steve gave him an affectionate smile. "I don't need anything."

"We'll see once it gets closer to the holiday," he suggested. Helpfully.

Steve leaned in for another quick kiss. "I don't need anything."

"Are you sure?" Because Tony could build him a nice new car even!

"I have you," Steve said, "which...for a while there I wasn't entirely sure would continue to be true."

Tony tightened his grip on Steve's hand. "Steve..."

Steve bit his lower lip. "The thought crossed my mind a few times."

"I'm sorry," Tony replied softly. "I didn't mean to do that to you."

"I know you didn't," Steve said with a tiny, slightly sad smile. "Let's go home before we drag all of this up."

"Yes," Tony agreed, picking up their joined hands to kiss the back of Steve's.

"Where's this car of yours?" he asked. "I'm sure it's blending right in."

Tony laughed quietly, smacking him on the arm. "Of course it is," he said, leading the way to the very, very tasteful... sportscar that was gold.

Seriously, Anthony?

Steve burst out laughing. "God, I love you."

"It was the best one near this part of Europe!" That did not make it better, really.

"Sweetheart," Steve said with a wry smile, shaking his head. "We really could've just caught a cab."

"It's just to get to the boat and then onto the island."

The private island.

"How far a drive is it?" Steve asked.

[imafuturist]

"Not long enough for a nap if that's your hope," Tony replied, getting into the driver's side.

"I can wait until we're out on the deck," Steve said, sliding into the passenger side.
