Steve spent the holiday with his scattered team while Tony had spent it with his own. Which was much less upsetting than it seemed like it ought to have been to take time apart after... everything.

But it could have been because they were going to meet back up.

Which was why Tony was keeping a low profile by the Portalocity section of this airport, waiting for Steve to arrive. Not being impatient about it at all. Don't be ridiculous.

Tony quietly leaned into his side at that, not having any advice he could give on the matter. Just some support.

"There's still work to do," Steve said.

"Feeling better about that at least?" Tony asked, ducking his head a little to not be noticed by passersby.

"Not really," Steve said, pulling his ballcap down over his face as well.

"You'll get there," Tony replied firmly.

Steve squeezed his fingers. "Let's go home."

"I had one of my cars shipped over here," Tony said, tugging him along.

Steve chuckled. "Of course you did. Is it red?"

"No, no," Tony said, clearing his throat. "Gold. Iron Man gold."

"Much more low profile," Steve said, laughing.

"I have a color scheme," Tony insisted.

"And you stick to it very admirably," Steve said.

"I could always buy a nice blue one for you for Christmas," Tony suggested.

"I don't need a car, Tony," Steve said.

"A motorcycle?" That made it better, right?

"You don't need to buy me anything," Steve told him. Again.

"But it's Christmas!" Totally made it okay to full on Sugar Daddy.

Steve gave him an affectionate smile. "I don't need anything."

"We'll see once it gets closer to the holiday," he suggested. Helpfully.

Steve leaned in for another quick kiss. "I don't need anything."

"Are you sure?" Because Tony could build him a nice new car even!

"I have you," Steve said, "which...for a while there I wasn't entirely sure would continue to be true."

Tony tightened his grip on Steve's hand. "Steve..."

Steve bit his lower lip. "The thought crossed my mind a few times."

"I'm sorry," Tony replied softly. "I didn't mean to do that to you."
